Malaysia is unique in many areas. Even the King of Malaysia is not the real king, the way normal kings are. Malaysia king is a constitutional monarch, that mean, we change the king every five years. It is a modern tradition in Malaysia that on the birthday of the sultans and King, the state is given a day of holiday. The sultan will give awards in term of honors or titles.I am trying to find the source of these traditions. I know that some sultan had their public birthday party, including the fest and culture show and even fishing events. It is unlikely that this tradition is from the days of the Malay Sultanate, because by tradition Malays do not celebrate birthdays.
