It does not come as a surprise that he becomes the Governor of Sarawak. When the announcement was made that he would step down, the paper was quick to mention that the present governors term ended in Feb 2014, making way for Taib Mahmud to take over the post.
This is not the first time a politician becomes governors. Pahang set the record when Khalil Yaakub became the governor in 2004. He was not even from Melaka.
